MC Macro Rokkor - QF 1:3.5 f=50mm


We know two different versions of the 50mm Macro MC-Rokkor, that are very similar:

The first version shows the typical full metal MC-Rokkor design. Without extension ring, it can be focussed from infinity down to ratio 1:2 or semi-life-size. Using the dedicated extension ring, the focus range will swift to 1:2 to 1:1 or life-size. This macro lens uses a fixed optical design and focus is based on focal extension only. This design shows excellent flexibility using bellows or reverse rings, but they is limited to lower maximum aperture and the semi-life-size close up limit.

As focus by extended lens-camera-distance results in reduction of aperture, the lens features a very useful scale of correction factors. As athumb rule a symmetrical lens design loses one stop at 1:2 magnification or two stops at 1:1 magnification. Internal TTL metering by the camera is based on the lens' real aperture and therefore takes account into the reduced light in close-up shots.

In close-up use, it must be kept in mind, that the closest distance on the lens' distance scale indicates the distance from film plane to focal plane. It is not the more important working distance from the lens' front to the focal plane. This working distance is far shorter. For practical use, please see our evaluated working distance.

The lens can be found moderately often on the second hand market.

The second version should be almost identical to version one. The difference is the smaller filter size of 52mm. If you own this lens and are willing to sell it to us, it would be our pleasure to receive your offer.
